Deadly Beauty: Horror’s Scream Queens and Rising Talent: “Metal Meowstress” Kitten Rose
“Kitten Rose “Metal Meowstress” is a Los Angeles Angel currently spreading her wings in Dallas, Texas. Established as a published Pinup Model, Actress, Burlesque Performer ,Host, MC, Producer and Creative Director, there is no stopping her claws from climbing to the top of film, television and radio industries. Her credentials include business management, marketing and events, to making the deans list and honors society in the medical world giving her the title of an ICB professional.
Kitten was raised in several small cities across Los Angeles including Van Nuys, where she grew up a General Motors brat that instilled the love and continual support of classic, kustoms, muscle cars to lowriders and rat rods. This lifestyle still currently plays a major role in her daily lifestyle. On weekends she would frequently visit her Great Aunt Arline who lived in the “Media Capital of the World” Burbank, California. Arline would take the young Kitten on field trips to many studios such as Walt Disney, NBC Universal and Warner Bros, as she would experience the large screens, props and first hand see the behind the scenes of what production meant. She was born with Hollywood in her veins.
“I remember sitting down and listening to my aunt speak about the many years of meeting so many famous stars and how beautiful it was back in the 40’s- 60’s. This is her favorite era as she taught me how to carry myself and the history of so many historical actors and actresses during this time. I was born and raised with pinup in my blood and want to incorporate it in everything that I do. I never realized until I decided working for myself and pursuing the second half of my life in front, beside and eventually behind a lens is how I will be remembered. I also grew up on Santa Monica beach my third home and where I would skate for hours, my father was a huge muscle man so of course we made our way to muscle beach and that is where I met his idols Lou Ferrigno and Arnold Schwarzenegger. I remember him telling me that these men were important and to never give up on what drives my passion. When I realized who they were a few years later, I associated strength with acting, because it takes a strong soul to stay focused and determination will gain you riches in your self worth. I grew up in L.A during the 80’s and even though I was a little girl I experienced so much through an older, wild sister in the punk and metal era who thrived on darkness and gore. This started my love affair in indie horror/science fiction films. My sister would try to scare the soul out of me so I wouldn’t snitch on her for taking me to shows on the Sunset Strip I was not suppose to be in. I had an eight course meal daily when it came to life experiences. I can honestly say my life has never been a bore”.
In 2012 Kitten began her creative direction through pinup modeling in a few short months she was shooting with a few photographers famed for shooting actors such as Robert DeNiro, Tommy Lee, Woody Allen, Charlize Theron and Sigourney Weaver to name a few. Never shy of an opportunity she began attending metal shows and soon began a gig as a merch girl for a band Protest, this was the beginning of her thrash metal love affair with drummer Jono Garrett who introduced her to Housecor Horror Film Festival and brought her back from the grave. A weekend of Heavy Metal, Gorelesque, Indie Horror Films and Rot Scar Awards. Kitten Rose volunteered in 2013-2014 as a presenter for the 2014 Rot Scars and major supporter of all things metal and gore.This was the weekend that defined Metal Meowstress and Kitten Rose took a back seat to let her demons play. She is currently putting together The Blood Lust Cult and Gorlesque! This group of deviant predators will not only dominate the stages but will be attending events to give the masses a chance to spend some quality time with their favorite actresses, models and gorelesque performers. She has incorporated her pinup image to bleed into her acting, burlesque and love of the underground metal scene where she is supported and motivated through so many beautiful, positive friends/family that share the same love and support in what drives us to the dark side of our souls in the horror, music, and film communities.. 1. How did you get into the industry?
I started the media side of my journey by making a few appearances in couple of music videos for an infamous pro skater. Shortly after that I was working on pinup/lowrider project, when I was asked to partake in a movie premiere held by Warner Bros. for the movie Gangster Squad at a movie theatre in Dallas, Texas. I was pretty excited because my roots began roaming the WB studio as a child and being able to represent my vintage pinup style brought back so many memories. I met an upcoming director at this premiere, with whom I networked and was invited to attended a marketing photo shoot for a web series he was creating called “Mobland”. He gave me direction and began mentoring me in many roles such as casting, executive production work and tapping into my acting skills. I fell in love with being not only behind the camera but amongst so many talented and driven individuals that I could learn so much from. You know the saying, “surround yourself with like minded individuals”? I sure as hell made that happen.
I attended a 48 Hour Film Competition, Stoner Race, which is full of many great upcoming Dallas actors, cinematographers that have been putting Dallas on the horror scene map and killing it, no pun intended. Each year Demonic Chronic Film Festival celebrates these hard working writers, directors, producers, actors and crews by submitting shorts in a 48 hour time frame. Most of the films are comedy, horror based with it’s main focus on greenery and occasionally blood, lust and debauchery. I was completely stoked that I found a group of professionals that have become family and work amongst one another in celebrating every chance we get to cause some bloody debauchery in front of and behind the lens. I never would have imagined that acting could be such a healing tool. Shortly after that I landed my first acting role as a sexual predator in a movie called ‘Reborn”, available on iTunes and Amazon. I earned my IMDb credits for acting, casting and location.
2. What Scream Queen inspired you the most?
I would have to say Geretta Rosemary, she scared the Judas Priest out of me in Demons (1985), directed by Lamberto Bava and produced by horror legend Dario Argento–the father of Asia Argento and Rats: Night of Terror (1984) . I had the honor and pleasure of meeting my favorite Scream Queen at Housecore Horror Film Festival in 2013, a horror and heavy metal festival that is held in Austin Texas each year.
Evil geniuses and festival Co-Founders Philip Anselmo and best-selling true crime author Corey Mitchell came together and created HHFF. This Horror Festival showcases the new and the old, the bloody and the quiet, the creepy and the funny. Horror films of all shapes, formats, and budgets. Mix this three day weekend with the heaviest of music in metal and a Rot Scars Awards ceremony, to which Metal Meowstress had the honour of presenting the awards in 2014 to those that won in the nine categories from best short, to best director, screenwriter, special effect, etc. One of the best weekend of my life! Corey made the perfect choice with having Gerretta there for appearance and signings. It was a very hot and humid weekend and the SQ looked quite dehydrated so I made sure I kept her hydrated and offered myself as her slave for the weekend. She is such a beautiful woman inside and out. Funny, humbled, intelligent and cool as %&^@! I was hanging with Gerretta Gerretta! She gave me a signed photo of her from Demons, which hangs in my Gorelesque rockstar bathroom!
3. What are the next couple of projects you are working on?
I just finished wrapping on film, Cancer Dancers which is in affiliation with Brain Damaged Films, directed and produced by Chaz Buchanan. I got to take cannibalism to a heightened awareness of sexual fantasies that will haunt you in your nightmares! We filmed in a Haunted House based in Sherman, Texas that definitely brought out the darkside of the cast and rawness of the film.
I will be working on a personal project that I will be producing and directing with Chaz Buchanan that will be involving directors of the indie horror film industries along side some wicked interviews and a few more plots. I can not really indulge in much more or I will have to tie you up and torture you.
July 18th I will be in Houston at the Maxima Distortzion Heavy Metal Awards as a presenter to the best Rock and Metal bands from Texas, which include my favorite group of bad asses and metal family, Warbeast! Metal Meowstress will also be performing a burlesque feature this day with a group of heavy metal vixens, The Hell’s Rejects Review which will include a theatrical performance along with biting off the head of a bat and basking in it’s blood . I am always producing art work through modeling and performance, pretty soon I will be launching The Blood Lust Cult and Gorelesque. I am always looking forward to any new acting projects, hosting, presenting, promotions, events, sponsorships or partaking in creative photo shoots that represent all things pinup, horror, metal and burlesque. I am also looking to add radio to my resume, so I am always down for creative collaborations!
