Ricci Returns: “Lizzie Borden Chronicles” heads to Lifetime on April 5th.

lizzie_borden_chroniclesLifetime is certainly not the go to channel for full ledged horror series, but the network for women had a hit on its hands in January 2014 when it premiered Lizzie Borden Took an Ax, a biopic of the alleged 1892 murder with Christina Ricci as the title character. The movie, which was more psychological drama than horror, was the number one original movie on Lifetime with over 4,400,000 viewers tuning into the first showing.

Well, it looks like Lifetime is once again trying to recapture the phenomenon much in the same way it did with The Client List (2010) and it’s television continuation, ‘The Client List” from 2012-2013. Despite never hearing anything about this at all, Lizzie Borden Took an Ax has received a television continuation of its own with Ricci returning as the ax wielding sociopath in a brand new series, “The Lizzie Borden Chronicles,” which is set to debut on Lifetime on April 5, 2015.

The eight part mini-series is written and directed by a number of talented individuals including Stephen Kay, who wrote the movie, and Judith Verno, who executively produced the movie. Speaking of returning players, Clea DuVall has also returned to play Emma Borden, Lizzie’s sister. Ricci and DuVall will be joined on screen by cast members Cole Hauser (Transcendence), Bradley Stryker (“Windfall”), Dylan Taylor (“Covert Affairs”), Jeff Wincott (“Sons of Anarchy”) and Kimberly Sue-Murray (The Scarehouse).

“The Lizzie Borden Chronicles” will take place four months after Lizzie’s dramatic, historic court case and will follow her and Emma’s lives following the fall out. Of course, things won’t go so smoothly for the sisters after they’ve become pariahs, and the show is described as being full of blood and irony.
