Did A Charleston Prostitute Stop A Serial Killer?

charleston

John Wayne Gacy, Ted Bundy, Jeffrey Dahmer… It’s been decades since a prolific serial defined a generation, but evidently great evil still walks among us. At least the lives of women across the United States are a little safer now due to an unlikely hero!

It was a night like any other on Saturday, July 18 when a prostitute known only as “Heather” started messaging a potential john on Backpage.com. After exchanging rates and regulations, “Heather” gave her home address in Charleston, West Virginia to 45-year-old Neal Falls. When they met up later that evening, Falls brandished a gun and asked the prostitute, “Do you want to live or do you want to die?” He made the decision for her and began strangling her in her own home. Gardening tools were nearby and in the struggle “Heather” reached for a rake, prompting Falls to put down his gun in order to disarm her of the weapon. In that moment, she swiped the gun from in front of him and fired a fatal shot into his body.

“Heather” will not be charged for the death of Neal Falls as authorities are investigating it as a case of self defense. This, however, has caused a series of chain reactions that pinpoint Falls as a predator and serial killer.

When authorities searched Falls’ vehicle outside the residence, they found a “kill kit,” a term used by police to describe a bag filled with supplies one would use as they go on a killing spree. The one found in the back of the vehicle included handcuffs, knives, a bullet proof vest and cleaning products like bleach to destroy DNA evidence. Authorities also found a “kill list” with names of ten other women, who are currently alive, that were to be targeted by Falls.

Authorities have now linked Falls to the death of four prostitutes in Nevada, as he rented a motel room for eight years from 2000 to 2008 when the women were found along a busy highway. Authorities are also investigating Falls as the culprit in the Chillicothe, Ohio cases due to his two hour proximity during his frequent trips to Nevada. Since May 2014, four women have died under mysterious circumstances and two are currently missing.
