There’s no way this can fail. Seriously.
Back in April I was treated to a review screener of El Gigante, a short film about a deranged wrestler in the desert who wrestles unfortunate, unwilling participants and uses their remains to feed his equally fucked up family. I was so impressed and delighted with what I saw that I gave El Gigante a 10 out of 10 star review, something I very rarely do. Let me not forget to highlight that El Gigante was directed by a female director, Canada’s Gigi Saul Guerrero. I can not express how talented Gigi is – especially at such a young age, too – and others agree with me seeing how she was just featured on Playboy.com.
El Gigante will be making its UK debut in a few days at Fright Fest, but that’s not the only news worth mentioning. Last Saturday at Montreal’s Fantasia International Film Festival it was announced that El Gigante will see a feature length film adaption! The concept for the project originally started as a novel by Shane McKenzie titled Muerte Con Carne. El Gigante was only the first chapter of Shane’s book and it is rumored that the feature film adaption will cover all of the remaining chapters and madness we didn’t get to see in the short.
El Gigante the feature will be a joint production between Luchagore Productions and Raven Banner.
Fingers crossed that David Forts and many of the original cast members return!
