Being that I was born in 1988 and didn’t start watching horror films on a full time basis until 2003, I pretty much missed out on the golden years of horror and science fiction. Luckily, Amazon Instant Video is slowly but surely uploading classic, low budget movies to its impressive catalogue and I was able to stream Fraternity Demon for just $3.99. There’s a lot of camp and 90s metal to satisfy some viewers, but unfortunately there wasn’t the tiniest bit of horror to behold. I call a mis-classification! Shenanigans! I call shenanigans!
Fraternity Demon is written by Steve Tymon (Mirror Mirror III, Witchcraft V) and is the one and only film from director C.B. Rubin. Cast members include Michael McKay (“Days of Our Lives”), Adam Lieberman (“Bones”), Josh Holland (Horror 101), Trixxie Bowie, Charles Laulette, Deborah Carlin, Al Darrouch, Brenda Holiday, Gary Rubenstein, Elaina McBroom, Dana Holyfield, Kevin Driscoll, Victor Newmark, Daniel Engstrom, John Cooker, Alison Cuffee, Erin Callahan and Gibran Gold.
Fraternity Demon takes place during a crazy costume fraternity party with one uninvited guest. A pervy, occult crazed college professor and one of his students accidentally conjure the succubus queen Isha from the shadow world and she’s after a little more than human flesh. Using her supernatural powers, Isha pinpoints the place with the most sexual energy – the hottest fraternity and sorority mixer – and begins to make the patrons and partiers her bitch. Now it’s up to the professor and his student to stop Isha before she sucks everyone dry…of energy, of course.
Watching Fraternity Demon was very much like stepping into a time machine and heading to a period that I just missed being a part of. Fraternity Demon effortlessly captures the style and mood of b-movies from the 90s…and I absolutely loved it! The independent rock singers, the leather, the cars, and even things like the lingo and clothes made the movie seem like a period piece more than a horror-comedy. It’s definitely a time that I would like to have been more a part of and I can only imagine all the fun they had producing this title. It’s campy. It has loads (see what I did there?) of b-movie quality supernatural effects. It has pretty decent acting performances. And it has one fun, sexy villain with Trixxie Bowie as Isha. What’s not to love?
The only thing that Fraternity Demon is missing is…well, the horror! While IMDB lists Fraternity Demon as a comedy, many other sites have it pegged as horror and this isn’t the case at all. There is absolutely no gore what-so-ever and I’m pretty sure that none of the succubus’ victims even die after they have sex. Just because the movie features a chase scene and has a demon with a plethora of powers under her garter belt doesn’t mean you can classify it as horror. There’s no mystery or suspense, either. Just a lot of sex and rock and roll, not that that’s a bad thing. Had Fraternity Demon added a few deaths into the mix and a blood splatter here or there, it would have definitely improved its re-watchability.

So it basically sounds like porn horror parody. Got it!
