Elvira, Mistress of the Dark Developing Animated Series, Autobiography.

elvira___mistress_of_the_dark_by_legacyeYou just can’t keep a good character down, and this news appears to be the most likely continuation of one of pop culture’s biggest phenomenons. Elvira, Mistress of the Dark (aka Cassandra Peterson) shot to historic fame as the horror hostess of “Movie Macabre,” which ran from 1981 to 1985. She would later resurrect the series from 2010 to 2011 before heading to Hulu with another horror hosting mini-series called “13 Nights of Elvira” in 2013. Since then, she’s been providing vocal work for the character of Ms. Campbell on “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.” I’ll get to why the voice over work is so important in a moment!

Besides being ranked #1 on Sci-Fi’s Sexiest B-Queens, being the first woman to do a music video in 3D, being the most purchased female Halloween costume of all time, and possessing one of the world’s biggest merchandise lines, Elvira co-wrote and starred in her own film Mistress of the Dark in 1988. Mistress of the Dark was somewhat of a box office disaster back in the 80s, but it’s since become a cult classic that horror-comedy fans adore. A sequel, Elvira’s Haunted Hills, was released in 2001, but now it seems a direct sequel to the original 1988 film is in the works…this time as an animated series!

On August 2, Cassandra Peterson attended the Boston Comic Con where she spent a great deal of time in panel discussing her decades long career. It became apparent that, though she’s 63-years-young, Elvira is still as popular as ever and there is still interest in the character. During the panel she remarked that an animated series is currently in the works and that it will directly follow the version of Elvira we saw in the 1988 movie and the events that have taken place after. Well, I’m all on board for that. With Hulu already interested in the hostess with the mostess, I’m sure there’s a home for “Elvira: The Animated Series” somewhere!

Peterson also remarked that she’s currently in the middle of penning her own autobiography; one that is taking her “150 years to write.” So far the book only covers the first few years of her life, but I’m sure we can expect so much more!

Stay tuned for all future updates on these developments!
