Man Bites, Attacks Passengers on Flight to Ireland

Is anyone watching the “Fear the Walking Dead” spin-off webseries, “Fear the Walking Dead: Flight 462?” The series released exclusively through AMC.com follows passengers on board a routine flight at the start of the zombie outbreak when a passenger comes down with mysterious symptoms, symptoms that places everyone in the plane in jeopardy. Whether this news story is promotional product placement, the start of the zombie apocalypse, or just an extremely unfortunate circumstance, it goes to show that it’s really not safe anywhere anymore.

On Sunday, October 18th Aer Lingus Flight EI485 was forced to divert its route and make an emergency landing in Cork, Ireland after a passenger started acting strangely. The flight began normally for the 167 passengers and 6 crew members on board the flight which was taking them from Portugal to Dublin, Ireland. About halfway through the flight, though, a 24-year-old man of Brazilian descent went into a fit of rage and began attacking the other passengers in his cabin. Two passengers charged the man and were able to drag him to the back of the plane; however, one man was bitten on the arm and the other man was bitten in an unconfirmed spot. After the struggle, the two men were able to restrain him and a doctor and two nurses, who were only passengers, were called to examine the attacker and his biting victims.

While being examined by the medical professionals, it is reported that the man continued to struggle against his restrains before going into a violent seizure. When the seizure receded, the man slipped into unconsciousness and died several minutes later. He was pronounced dead while Flight EI485 was still in the air. John Leonard, who witnessed these events, noted that the sounds the man made before passing were, “something I never heard before.” Passengers and crew members were kept on board for two hours for questioning and investigation before they were allowed to depart. A 40-year-old woman was later arrested after authorities found large amounts of amphetamines in her carry-on luggage.

Currently, it is believed that the woman gave the victim amphetamines which caused him to react so violently, as he was no longer in control of himself due to the side-effects. This is just one of many instances where drugs, especially bath salts, have caused users to act out of character, and as most people would equate it, like zombies.
