In 2015 Expressway To Your Skull had its World Premiere at the New Jersey Film Festival on February 13th and subsequently has played at the HorrorQuest Film Festival in Atlanta in October.
A gripping horror film, Expressway to Your Skull, follows Ed and Amy, a thrill-seeking couple in their 20s as they steal away from the city to the backwoods for a spur-of-the-moment camping trip to cut loose and “expand their minds”. With a stash of drugs, backpacks and half-cocked enthusiasm Ed and Amy hit the road… But soon the couple cross paths with a mysterious survivalist named Charlie. As their plans for a drug-hazed vacation turn sour they instead find themselves fighting for their lives in a deranged psychedelic-fueled death trip that blurs the line between reality and nightmares. The film marks the feature film directorial debut for Michael Okum, who is its Writer, Director, Producer, and Editor. He is an award winning independent filmmaker and visual artist born and raised in New Jersey. Michael studied fine art painting, sculpture and mixed media at Tyler School of Art gaining a BFA in Painting in 2002. After moving to California to pursue filmmaking and art he studied Writing and Directing at Art Center College of Design from 2008 to 2010 where received his MFA. He lives and works in Los Angeles.
Expressway to Your Skull was produced by Julian Daly, who has been around film his entire life. Growing up with a successful producer father (John Daly, Hemdale Film Corporation) and a successful actor stepfather (Kiefer Sutherland), he seemed destined to join the family business. Julian began his career in the music industry working with a number of artists in production and marketing, but after his father’s passing in 2008, he refocused his career on the world of film with the hopes of succeeding the legacy his father left. Julian holds a certificate degree in both production and directing with a minor focus on cinematography. Expressway to Your Skull is his first feature film as Producer.
Circus Road Films has handled North American sales representation and subsequently landed a distribution deal with Brain Damage Films releasing it Worldwide starting Fall 2015.
