Pride, Prejudice & Zombies Shambles to the Finish Line on Opening Night.

pride-and-prejudice-and-zombies-trailer-posterPride, Prejudice & Zombies just hit theaters last night and the estimates for ticket sales are starting to trickle in… and it looks like the film is going to be the first horror flop of 2016. Released into 2,931 theaters by Screen Gems, Pride, Prejudice & Zombies is estimated to have taken in only $2,035,000 in ticket sales on opening night, Friday, February 5th.

Now, to be fair, it’s hard to market period horror films to horror fans in general, especially when you add large doses of comedy into that mix. Also, there were two other debuts at the box office on the same night, which means there was stiff competition as to which movie cinema goers were the most excited for.

Pride, Prejudice & Zombies was produced for $33,000,000 (promotion included) and this early stumble doesn’t bode well for those hoping this would make any money. In hindsight, The Forest debuted to $4,972,000 on opening night and The Boy managed to pull in $3,185,000; and both films have yet to cross the $25,000,000 mark.

My estimate? Pride, Prejudice & Zombies will make $12,000,000 by the end of the week and sink to the bottom right after that. I wager it’ll come in at #6 on Friday after being leap frogged by Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Top 5 on Friday:
1 Kung Fu Panda 3 – $5,200,000
2 Hail, Caesar! – $4,310,000
3 The Choice – $2,480,000
4 The Revenant – $2,080,000
5 Pride, Prejudice & Zombies – $2,035,000
