*THIS* Almost Made Scream: The TV Series Canon to the Films.

I was originally beyond excited when “Scream: The TV” series was announced because I was anxious to see one of my favorite horror film franchises continuing in one form or another. Little did I know, the MTV produced series was the furthest thing from what I expected… Although Wes Craven executively produced the first season, “Scream: The TV Series” didn’t feature any returning characters or locations and the Ghostface mask had been reworked to look ‘more organic.’ The only bit of substance that made it related to the Scream films beyond Wes’ involvement was pop culture movie references, the same wit and humor and people getting killed by a murder in a similar costume. That’s not something I’d exactly consider canonical.

Well, a cast member from the films was asked to make an appearance in an episode of “Scream: The TV Series” during the shows first season and that certainly would have tied things together nicely in a universal kind of way.

Speaking with Hollywood Life in an interview dated April 11, 2016, survival girl Sidney Prescott was invited to shoot a couple lines, but actress Neve Campbell politely declined the offer. Her dismissal of the role that made her an international celebrity appears to be due to a much needed break from Hollywood and her desire to be more devoted and doting to her children. She tells the source: “I was invited when it was starting, but it didn’t seem to make sense to me. I wasn’t working at the time — I was just being a mom; but also, because I’m a part of the films, for some reason, it didn’t make sense to me.”

Campbell has since gone on to land recurring roles on hit shows like “House of Cards” and “Welcome to Sweden,” so it’s possible that a Sidney Prescott cameo could happen in season two, which begins airing on May 30th. However, being that she has failed to watch the show at all and I agree with her that very little it makes a lick of sense, I’m not going to get my hopes up anytime soon!
