The Eleventh Annual Festivalito La Palma in the Canary Islands, which just today opened doors for attendees, will pay tribute to the creator of The Toxic Avenger and president of 42 year old independent film company, Lloyd Kaufman, at this evening’s opening ceremony. The honors ceremony for Lloyd Kaufman was announced today by Josafat Concepcion, coordinator for Festivalito La Palma.
Festivalito La Palma’s opening ceremony is to present the North Star Award to those artists, institutions or public figures aligned with theFestivalito’s values. Thanks to his organization with the Festivalito La Palma, Troma team veteran and independent director, Josafat Concepcion, was able to bring New York City’s finest underground cinema legend to his homeland in order to exalt and recognize the influence of Troma Entertainment and Lloyd Kaufman in film history.
Festivalito La Palma, the first film festival in Europe to focus only on digital filmmaking (chine chico), is also the first to include on-site shootings using new technology during its celebration by guest directors. Every year Festivalito features a different theme and a filmmaker to pay tribute to. This year is TROMA and Lloyd Kaufman will receive the festival’s North Star Award! The event will come in accompaniment with selected screenings of Troma content.
The Festivalito’s weekends will feature a number of selections of films from new directors internationally, the event will also feature Troma Classics like Toxic Avenger and Tromeo and Juliet! Also, for the first time ever in Spain, Festivalito La Palma will show recent Troma feature length release,Return to Nuke ‘Em High Volume1!
Another Tromatic highlight of this edition of Festivalito La Palma will be a Master Class taught by Lloyd Kaufman himself, based on his written instructional and insightful books, All I needed to know about Filmmaking I learned from The Toxic Avenger.
