Zombies vs. Mechanical Flying Great Whites in… Sky Sharks!

PHFGKU8WPJ3bJK_1_lDoes anyone remember that viral video of the youngster still high off the anesthesia from his dentist appointment? He stares at the camera at one point, with a blank and deadpan expression, and asks “is this real life?” I picture myself in a similar position because I just came across the news that a new film in the sharksploitation subgenre of horror is swimming around Cannes 2016 and it is absolutely nuts. It’s currently titled Sky Sharks and you just have to keep reading to find out what Sky Sharks is actually about.

MovieWeb has the full plot summary, describing it as: “Deep in the ice of the Antarctic, a team of geologists uncover an old Nazi laboratory, still intact, where dark experiments had occurred. Unwittingly the geologists unleash upon the world a top-secret experiment the Germans had been working on – modified sharks that are able to fly, whose riders are genetically mutated, undead super-humans. The only thing that can stop them, and possibly save the world, is a military task force called “Dead Flesh Four” – assembled from reanimated U.S. soldiers who fell in Vietnam.”

Now, if that batshit (sharkshit?) craziness isn’t enough to sink your teeth into, it should be noted that Sky Sharks will star a pod of horror legends including Tony Todd (Candyman, Final Destination, Hatchet), Lynn Lowry (Cat People, The Crazies, Shivers), Naomi Grossman (“American Horror Story,” Fear INC) and Robert LaSardo (Death Race, Waterworld, Wishmaster). They’ll be joined onscreen by other noteworthy horror stars including Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa (Mortal Combat, Planet of the Apes), Lar-Park Lincoln (Friday the 13th: Part VII, House II), Nick Principe (Laid to Rest, Restoration) and Dave Sheridan (Ghost World, Scary Movie), as well as Michaela Schaffrath and Charles Rettinghaus.

Catch this baby sometime in 2017!
