Bonfire Films to Produce Werewolf Film White Drift Starring Kristi Ray of Pieces of Talent

PORTLAND – Today, Bonfire Films announced they would be producing a short werewolf film utilizing practical effects for the monster. The film will star Sean Carmichael (Tickle, Gleam) and Kristi Ray (Pieces of Talent, Beyond the Living). The premiere is set for HorrorHound Weekend this September in Indianapolis, before it spends the month of October touring Maine as part of the Damnationland Film Festival.

Damnationland presents genre-defying original works from Maine filmmakers that redefine the classic thriller and horror categories. Now in its seventh year, the Damnationland 2016 program will feature films produced in Maine by Mainers especially for the Halloween season. These are dark, surreal, and fantastic pieces, and they offer film fans an excellent sampling of the talent producing independent film in Maine today.

Synopsis: White Drift is the newest short film from Bonfire Films, made as part of the 2016 Damnationland Film Festival. The film focuses a drifter who arrives in a small Maine town, suffering from the symptoms of withdrawal. When a local waitress takes an interest in him, she soon realizes that he’s not an addict, but instead a werewolf beginning his transformation.

Inspired by the werewolf movies of our youth, White Drift presents a new take on the werewolf story geared for modern audiences, while still using the practical effects techniques that made us fall in love with the genre years ago.

“I get really excited about well done practical special effects. As an actor, as a viewer, it always feels more real and tangible. With CGI and green screens being used constantly, and sometimes just as a matter of convenience, it’s refreshing to see filmmakers make the bold choice to go practical like Bonfire is doing with this film. I’m really looking forward to it.” – Actor Sean Carmichael

“I’m stoked to be a part of a werewolf movie. And especially to be working with this talented team! Last summer I shot a practical FX movie on the Appalachian Trail and I know and appreciate greatly how much design, preparation and true work goes into making these characters come to life. It’s an incredible art form.“ – Actress Kristi Ray

“I’ve wanted to make a werewolf film since I was a little kid. There’s always been something mystifying about that particular subgenre. We’ve assembled an incredible team for this project, ranging from our technical personnel, to our FX team, to Sean and
Kristi. I can’t wait to start shooting.” – Director Corey Norman
