Horror comes in many different flavors. Some like it dark and mysterious, heavily influenced by gothic tales of yesteryear. Others want monsters, madmen and beasts. Then there is the ones who want the good stuff and want their films bloody, gory, and depraved. Personally, I love all three along with humor and sleaze. Chris Woods and Sleaze Box is also a fan of this and has turned his love of these films into a career.
While working with John Miller the two has released several films that has taken the indie horror community by storm. Now, Chris is running Sleaze Box alone and his newest effort has taken him away from the sleaze and into the world of blood and gore. His new film, Chaos A.D. recently premiered at Slaughter in Syracuse where it was met with a positive response. Not long after that Chris reached out to me and let me know my copy was on the way so I went to the post office and waited patiently. Thanks Chris for once again hooking me up!
**Spoiler Alert**The film follows three individuals with nothing in common. One is a housewife (Caputo) who just murdered her asshole husband and was trying to hide the body. The other is a politician with a taste for whores. The third is a young girl (Kart) who is preparing for a Halloween party when they are all three abducted by Bytch, Vixen, Misery, and Uncle Lester on Halloween night. They lock them in cages and start playing morbid games with them and torturing them.
They try to fight back but the politician finds himself in the gut of one of his abductors when they catch him trying to escape and eat him. The housewife is then dragged into a room and is about to be raped by Uncle Lester when she convinces him to untie her. She starts stroking him off and when he closes his eyes she rips his dick off with barb-wire. She then helps the young girl and her brother escape but she refuses to leave without getting her revenge on them. **Spoiler Alert**
I have been reviewing films from the Sleaze Box for a few years now after I first contacted them about Amerikan Holokaust. Since then I have reviewed several films. Some were positive while others were negative. I respect the hell out of Chris Woods but sometimes I don’t see eye to eye with his films. With that being said, he is one hell of a filmmaker and you never know what he is going to throw at you next. Chaos A.D. really is the film I was expecting and Woods killed it. To date, this is the best Sleaze Box film and I think they will only get better going forward.
The acting in this one is great. The film stars some of the best in the indie horror scene. We get several Sleaze Box regulars like Bob Glazier, Krystal Pixie Adams, and Ashley Lynn Caputo. They do a great job as always and dedicate themselves fully to their role. It is strange seeing Bob in a film and not kill it with dialogue but he still does a great job.
The film’s main stars, Lisa Marie Kart and Cayt Feinics, has now been in a few Sleaze Box flicks. They really made the film what it is. Their performances is pretty fucking intense and very demanding. Woods did right by casting these two. The film also has some great roles from relative new comers Amanda Welch, Saharra Huxly, and Paula Tsurara. I don’t know what they put in the water in Florida but all the women in this film is drop dead gorgeous.
The story for this one is not really that original but Woods tells this story in such a way that the viewer doesn’t care. The story pulls the viewer in, covers them in blood, and refuses to turn them loose. The story following a group of unusual people killing others in a designated location has been done so many times before. We have Texas Chainsaw Massacre, House of 1000 Corpses, Michael Rodriguez’sLamb Feed and dozens more that have a similar stories. However, none of these have the spin that Chris Woods and Sleaze Box have. They are sleazy as one would come to expect and it has a little more story than most of the others. Especially with the ending that we get that makes it almost fill like it was inspired by the Elite Hunting Club. It was great and combined a lot of different elements to make it feel unique and different.
Finally, this film is a fucking bloodbath. The film is full of bloody death ranging from genital mutilation, to decapitation, to stabbings and gun shots through the vagina. The kills are imaginative and handled perfectly. The effects are brilliant and the kills are amazing. Overall, Chaos A.D. is the film indie horror needs right now. It’s fun, gory, and fucking disgusting. This film is for anyone that wants to see beautiful women killing more beautiful women.
