They’re baaaaaaack.

13592324_294151417600328_7283085130137734020_nWhen I saw that Attack of the Killer Shrews was announced in 2014, I was excited but apprehensive about the independent sequel. Though it’s been billed as a remake by several other outlets, I’d like to consider it an original entry in the budding trilogy because the plots between The Killer Shrews (1959) and Attack of the Killer Shrews (2016) aren’t exactly kin. As the film has marched towards release, however, my apprehension has vacated and I’m excited to see what it has to offer fans of b-movie creature features such as myself.

Written and directed by Ken Cosentino, Attack of the Killer Shrews follows “a group of misfits, including a small town sheriff, a high-brow professor, and a B-movie scream queen, who must defend the world against an invasion of monstrous, killer shrews!” Lead and supporting cast members include Jonathan Rogers, Elizabeth Houlihan (Holland Road, Wolf House), Bill Kennedy (“The Bold and the Beautiful”), Marcus Ganci-Rotella, Cheryl Szymczak, Bill Brown, Mick O’Keefe, Baird Hageman, James Ventry and Frank Tedesco (“Dexter”).

Troma’s Lloyd Kaufman also has a small part in the movie and Uncle Lloyd will also be on hand to introduce the movie when it makes its world premiere on September 30, 2016 at 9:30PM. The venue has been set for the North Park Theatre located at 1428 Hertel Ave in Buffalo, New York. Tickets are on sale now, but available seats are running out. They cost only #10 and can be purchased here: northparktheatre.org. If you want to see dogs with masks swapped for hand puppets, stop motion swapped for big stunts, 50’s/60’s styled timelines and 80’s VHS picture quality – Attack of the Killer Shrews is the movie for you!

A sequel to The Killer Shrews titled Return of the Killer Shrews was released in 2012.
