Colleen Freak

colleen Colleen FreakSo up next… and yes it has been a while, sorry… this week’s freak of the week is the multi-talented Colleen Jones. If anyone knows a thing or two about zombies here in Chicago I would have to say its her and I would put her at the top of the zombie list. She is a makeup artist, baker, theater lover, jazz freak and all around horror lover!

Colleen is one of the driving forces behind the ultra successful Chicago Zombie March this year, and last as well, and a host of other zombie related events both in the past and future. So lets see what makes this woman such a lover of all things undead!!

What got you started with this whole Zombie scene?

Well i believe it all began back when i began to haunt 7 years ago.

I worked for a local high school haunt (Elmwood Park High School Haunt) and i had to do makeup for a couple of zombies and that how the early workings of the zombie scene for me began

The zombie scene really took off when I was recruited by my friend Dave Lasley, to participate in the first Chicago Zombie March. I would do makeup for those who had no clue as to do their own. After that event I really started to do more zombie events around chicago just to get my name out there.

How long have you been doing makeup?

colleenfreak1 Colleen FreakOfficially I have done makeup for about 5 years on  myself and other people at some haunted houses ( Dream Reapers, Murder Mansion and upcoming SlaughterHouse Circus).

Unofficially, I have done Halloween and special effects makeup ever since I was 11 years old.  I would do my brother’s and myself Halloween makeup each year.

How did you get involved with the Chicago Zombie March?

Well back in the cold early wintery months of 2008 I was approached by  my friend Dave Lasley with a job offer.  He had kept in contact with jess and jon who had started this idea for a bunch of people to dress up as zombies and walk around downtown Chicago.  He asked me if I could be one of the head makeup artists for the event dubbed “Chicago Zombie March”.  Well I was all up for the event!  To be able to get my skills and name out there in the public was a welcomed opportunity.

What is your favorite horror film.. zombie film or other?

I have to say one of my top favorite horror films is Planet Terror

The makeup and the use of zombies intertwined with the medical and military scene was really creative.

How are you involved with the Zombie Con this year?

I will be demonstrating different ways to look like a zombie with various special effects in my zombie makeup seminars.  I will also have a zombie attire seminar where I show people how to dress up like a zombie.

Any future zombie or horror events you have planned?

Well I am in the conceptual character process of the various circus characters for the Forest Park’s haunted house SlaughterHouse Circus.
I am also in the planning of a possible zombie mini golf for next year

If anyone is in need of special effects makeup for any event i can be reached at horrorgirl86@gmail.com
