he Independent Film Channel and the Weinstein Co. have picked the Toronto Fest horror comedy “Black Sheep” for distribution in the United States.
Daily Variety reported that IFC will handle the release on its First Take label.
“Black Sheep” follows two brothers in New Zealand. One of the brothers has reportedly created a genetically modified sheep that begins to run amok.
IFC and Weinstein Co. teamed up last month to jointly acquire “Penelope.” The companies also teamed up earlier this year for joint releases including “Transamerica,” Daily Variety reported.
There are 40 million sheep in New Zealand… and they’re pissed off!
New Zealand’s 4 million human inhabitants are hugely outnumbered by 40 million sheep. The story is based on the premise that after a genetic experiment goes horribly wrong, the sheep start turning nasty, and it’s the humans who begin bleating.
