Cinema Wasteland Updates

The New Year is finally here. And it couldn’t have come at a better time…

Naturally, the best news about the New Year is that the 15th Cinema Wasteland Movie and Memorabilia Expo is now only three months away. As I start to get the Movie and Event schedule together, I can’t help but notice that April’s “Spring Spectacular” promises to be another great time for every fan through the door.

Thanks to our friends at redshirtpictures.com, we have another first time CW guest to announce:

DANNY STEINMANN – Writer, producer, and director Danny Steinmann would probably best be known to Wasteland fans for writing and directing a trio of films, including the underrated horror outing, THE UNSEEN (1981), along with the rape-revenge thriller, SAVAGE STREETS (1984), which starred Linda Blair and Linnea Quigley as Blair’s rape victim sister, as well as FRIDAY THE 13th PART 5: A NEW BEGINNING (1985). If you haven’t as yet done so, by all means, check out Danny’s bio on the Guest Page of the web site for additional information.

AND IN OTHER NEWS:  If you looked at the Films and Events page in the past day or two, you’ll see that things are starting to take shape nicely for April’s show.

Unless I can squeeze in another film, or maybe a short or two, the 16mm Film list is pretty much ready to go. I usually try to wait until the last minute to go through independent movie submissions but will more than likely get a few indy flicks posted this month and post the balance in February.

On Friday night from 10:30pm to bar closing, you can find our very own Suspira hosting every drunks favorite pass time, karaoke… ah, I mean, Scaryoke, in the bar. Oh joy. My ears get to bleed…

Saturday night, A. Ghastlee Ghoul’s “Ghastlee Nite at the Movies” will feature the GHASTLEE NITE OF FUN AND GAMES! It’s a night of back-to-the-basics Live Entertainment, Games, Prizes, and Fun this time around. Come play 42nd Street Pete’s Horror Jeopardy against fellow fans! Check out our version of the Family Feud! Count Gore promises to hypnotize members of the audience! All this and more await you Saturday night, beginning at 8:00pm.

Artist Chris Kuchta has had a table at the past few Cinema Wasteland Shows. For April’s show, he’s done up an original Texas Chainsaw Massacre art piece for us to use as the show’s Schedule of Events cover. He will also be making the piece available as a limited edition print that will be available come show time. A picture of Chris’ TCM piece is pictured on the main page of the convention site, so check it out when you get a chance. Personally, I love Chris’ style and think it goes great with a TCM themed piece.

FLIERS and POSTCARDS:  Updated fliers and postcards for April’s show are ready to ship out. If you’d like to help spread the Cinema Wasteland word, right now is a great time to start. And we don’t expect you to download one flier off our site and print it off yourself. Just say the word and we’ll be more than happy to send you a stack of fliers or postcards for the April show to pass out. Bars, specialty shops, video stores, tattoo shops, college campuses, music stores… All good places for Wasteland attendees to hang out. If you frequent any place that you think may be a good place to put a stack of cards and you’d like to help spread the Wasteland word, then by all means, get in touch and I’ll be more than happy to send off a stack. As always, any help in spreading the word about the show is truly appreciated.

TICKETS:  For everything we offer our attending fans, there is no better bargain out there than an advance ticket to a Cinema Wasteland Show we can find; and no better time to plan to be with us for our next show than right now. No “hidden fees” at a Wasteland show guarantees every fan through the door is treated just like the person standing next to you in line; and your ticket in gets you everything we have to offer except for an autograph from our guests. Order before 3/6/09 and you can get an advance 3-Day Pass for only $35.00. And don’t forget that a 3-Day Pass always gets you into the Dealer and Guest Room half an hour before single day pass holders without paying “early admission fees” other conventions charge fans. You can also save $5.00 on any single day pass ordered in advance before 3/6/09 and get in for only $15.00 per day.

HOTEL:  You can reserve your room by calling The Holiday Inn direct at (440) 238-8800, or reserve your room on our web site. Remember you MUST ask for “The Cinema Wasteland Rate” or they will tell you that they are “sold out” and have no rooms. If you are told that the hotel is sold out, remember to tell them you are with Cinema Wasteland, as we have the whole hotel blocked for our group. AND PLEASE only reserve as many rooms as you plan on using. Do not book rooms you don’t plan on using for friends who don’t plan on showing up. It was a problem last show and I’d like to stop it before it gets out of hand.

OK, there you have it. The first show update of the year. If interested, under the PAST SHOWS header on the main convention page, we also posted a brief history of how the Cinema Wasteland show got started back in 1998, along with some photos and a little paragraph for the first six Cinema Wasteland Movie and Memorabilia Expo’s. Don’t see any reason not to get the rest of the show recaps posted before long, so check back next month for more past CW memories.

Here’s wishing everyone all the best in 2009. Hope to see you all this April.
