“That’s silly honey. People don’t get smaller.” Louise, The Incredible Shrinking Man

On May 9th, you’ll actually get the chance to see Aliens on the big screen again! Yes, as part of Movie Side Productions Sci Fi Spectacular 3, those vicious Aliens – which many consider one of the best sequels ever made- and Ripley – one of the most inspiratonal film heroines of all time – will be riding high again.

Perhaps, more importantly, Movie Side gives us the rare pleasure of seeing less well known delights on the big screen as well. In fact, audiences should thrill to see the influential, highly regarded The Incredible Shrinking Man in the fest’s opening slot at 12:15 pm. The pedigree behind the film, alone, could set many true movie fans’ hearts ablaze.

200px-incredible-shrinking-manBased on the novel by Richard Matheson (I Am Legend), who also wrote the screenplay, The Incredible Shrinking Man was directed by Jack Arnold (Tarantula, The Creature from the Black Lagoon) and stars B-movie horror-Sci Fi regular Grant Williams (Monolith Monsters, The Leech Woman, Brain of Blood, The Doomsday Machine).

Many critics still applaud The Incredible Shrinking Man, made in 1957, as one of the first films to effectively describe the terror induced by the threat of atomic warfare–and although slightly hokey and awkward (adding to the film’s overall fun), the scenes where the shrunken Williams fights frantically against the family cat and a basement spider still can induce some hot goosebumps and cold shivers.

So, come early (its $20, presale, $24, day of event- at the Music Box Theatre, 3733 N. Southport)to live life in miniature and stay late to feel the rancid breath and snapping jaws of some outer space baddies – two things that only Movie Side Productions and its Sci Fi Scpectacular can truly offer you.

Please note: Movie Side’s special guest will be Gary Lockwood of 2001 (also showing).
