Abigail’s Woods Review

With Abigail’s Woods, Haunt County Productions offers a charming alternative to the big budget wolf man currently chomping up the silver screen.

Filmed on a shoestring budget ($1500) over a period of nine months, Abigail’s Woods was seemingly made for the pure love of filmmaking and for the supreme joy of the horror cliché, making it an extremely enjoyable view despite any technical flaws or storyline simplicity.

When a bunch of college kids violate the property of legendary witch Abigail in Haunt County one brisk night, they soon find themselves at the sharp end of her vengeful wraith’s claws – a ferocious werewolf. With assistance from Randy and his brother Jason, the local horror geeks, hero Chris eventually puts into action a plan that may save his life – but at what consequence?

Enthusiastically – if not professionally – acted (with special notice going to Chris Sokowicz’ Zak who practically steals the show), and including a special appearance from John Aranza from the popular Horrorbles shop, Abigail’s Woods contains all the horror staples (the haunted shack, a legend with a curse attached, an empty warehouse at night) that you want along with some added bonuses including a highly unlikely (and extremely likeable) gay couple among its doomed protagonists.

The DVD also contains some fun behind the scenes footage which chronicles both the joy and frustrations of no budget film making and definitely proves that Haunt County founders, Randy Schmitz and Christopher Vasel, are a team to watch out for in the future.

  6. Terrible movie! If I had one day to live, I would spend it watching this movie because it felt like an eternity. The dvd didnt play on my computer or my xbox, it has a weird region code and the dvd was burned on some cheap media. The extras were just three guys sitting around, watching nascar and drinking beer. One of them was incredibly overweight and could not sit still. I didn't want to pay for that! And the dvd cover it came with was some really cheap homemade artwork stolen from the internet, mostly pictures of Bram Stoker and The Blair Witch Project.

The movie itself was just taken with what appeared to be a cellphone of some very shoddy camera work and 75% of it was a guy wearing a Werewolf mask from Spencers, carrying glowsticks like some raver from the 90s and shouting how the government is after him.
