Watch: Horror Society Stories Presents… Episode One

It has arrived. The first episode of the anthology called ‘Horror Society Stories Presents…’ A month or so ago, I came up with the idea of asking for short horror films from directors. The point is to promote the directors by broadcasting their short films on our YouTube channel. Horror Society makes no profit off of streaming these films. It’s a win, win situation. Our YouTube channel gets some views, and more importantly we get to expose these unknown short films to a little wider audience.

The first episode, MGD & Ron Purtee, features two short films. By now you know that I review films often and post my criticisms up on HorrorSociety.com. But, I’m here to assure you that I’m literally here to just show you guys some films. So, in the vain of being fair, I decided I would include a short mock-trailer I did while in film school. The point of this was to also show you guys that making a short film is not as easy as it would seem. A lot of things go wrong and you’ll often find yourself with a slightly different project than you started out with.

This brings me to the first email submitted short film. It’s called Minion and is directed by Ron Purtee. Ron is a film maker from Wisconsin and you can follow his blog https://www.theycallmeron.com/ to learn more about him. In Minion, a young woman searches a house for her charge, could be a friend, could be someone she’s babysitting. And there are some frightening sounds coming from upstairs. Are they alone in the house? Minion begins with a scene reminiscent of Halloween and ends with a creepy declaration. All in all, it’s a pretty solid short film and was perfect to use as an introduction to the series.
