NJ director to tackle psychological thriller in ‘Confined.’

I’ve always said New Jersey was a vastly overlooked hub for independent horror film. I’ll also file science-fiction and psychological thrillers under “horror” just for argument’s sake. This weekend an up-and-coming director by the name of Daniel Vargas will be embarking on another filmmaking adventure when he begins filming his latest short film, Confined. In Confined, “A girl and her brother are held captive by a deranged, crazed man. As the girl contemplates escape, we may find a reason behind the sickness that lies in his head…”

Mr. Vargas will be taking on the brunt of the behind-the-scenes work by himself, but he will also be joined by Kevin Ho, Michael DeFellipo (me!!), Alex Monroig, Jeremy Beyer, and a few others who will round out the crew. Starring in this short film will be New Jersey actors Jefry Betances, Marissa Vargas, and Sebastian Mendes.

“I wanted to explore blending genres that we don’t normally see. Short films are great projects to do because you get to experiment with ideas,” says Vargas, a Kean University alumni. “People forget how much work goes into a short film. You become the writer, director, cameraman, cinematographer, and editor.”

Again, filming of Confined will take place this weekend and a small portion of next week. I will keep readers updated on this film’s progress as it moves forward.
