Scripture and Screams: Cattle Decapitation: Monolith of Inhumanity CD Review

You can argue that Cattle Decapitation is Death Metal, Gore Metal, Grindcore or Death-Grind, but what you can’t argue is how epic their new album Monolith of Inhumanity is. While continuing to be one of the most intense and brutal bands on the planet, they have continued on a concept that we first saw popping up in 2009’s The Harvest Floor, which is a more melodic sound in certain songs and more chorus. The CD poses a sense of dread, especially with songs like “The Monolith”, “Your Disposal” and “Gristle Licker”. While refining their sound for their seventh album, Cattle Decapitation continues to evolve their sound and message with every track on the CD, that basically mankind is destroying itself with how we continue to evolve socially and the things we do in the name progress. Vocalist Travis Ryan: “Whereas The Harvest Floor focused on sort of rounding up the populace and getting rid of them, this record is about what would happen had we let them go. It’s about where humanity will end up if it continues the course it’s on.”* Looking at society today, it is not too hard to believe, but if this is going to be the soundtrack of the apocalypse, then sign me up!
