Lionsgate is developing a new supernatural thriller set in the Vatican entitled White Smoke. For those unfamiliar with the significance of what white smoke means, it’s the sign from the Vatican that a new Pope has been chosen. Religious followers world wide look to a pipe in the Vatican to see if white smoke emanates, which signals that a new Pope has been chosen.
According to Variety, Lionsgate is developing Vatican supernatural thriller “White Smoke” with horror film titan Jason Blum and Kevin McCormick on board to produce.
The studio has acquired a pitch from Jeff Richard and Mark Bianculli, who are writing the script about a series of bizarre and haunting occurrences that grip the Vatican. A renowned neuroscientist is summoned by the inner circle of cardinals to find a logical explanation.
Blum (pictured) is producing through his Blumhouse Productions shingle, home to the “Paranormal Activity,” “Insidious” and “Purge” franchises.
We’ll have to keep a close eye on this one as Jason Blum seems to have the golden touch with anything he’s associated with.
