Deadly Beauty: Horror’s Scream Queens and Rising Talent: Morgan Monnig

308972_10150346965368655_1200581120_n“I was born in Kansas City, Mo in 1979. My father’s job brought us to Moncks Corner, SC when I was 5, so I really grew up there. I graduated from Berkeley High in 97 and took my time with college as I didn’t know “what I wanted to be when I grew up”….I spent quite a bit of time on the lake and the river… just goofing off. I did quite a bit of fishing growing up…I was also fortunate that Charleston was less than an hour away so our family took full advantage of that. I have a big brother and a little sister but of the 3 of us I’m still the runt..Who knew 5’9 was so short??? When I was little my “boyfriend” was Freddy Kruger… though I didn’t know who he was, my brother would tease me and tell me Freddy would come get me in my sleep. I always denied it and said “Freddy won’t hurt me because he loves me and he’s my boyfriend”…. then I actually saw Nightmare on Elm Street. Safe to say I just didn’t see us being together long term particularly when the only time I’d ever see him is if I were sleeping. Kinda puts a damper on love…… and then I watched Hellraiser. My life was forever changed. I LOVE Hellraiser. Ironically I married a guy named Freddy….

I love camping and I’m pretty handy with a rifle (gun of choice is 270 Winchester – has an easy recoil) but I’m deciding on which hand gun I like. I’m looking into a concealed permit since I travel so much. I moved to Columbia nearly 15 years ago but visit Charleston pretty often to see family and friends. I love to drive. I drive everywhere. I love a good road trip but I prefer to drive solo. If I’m going to make an ass of myself singing in the car then it’s going to be a solo mission. That reminds me I need an oil change. My favorite music is anything old. I love do-wop. 50’s, 60’s and 70’s are my thing. Never really got into the 80s… shame on me. I watched a lot of black and white movies growing up and my favorites are the murder mystery type…Thin Man or anything Sherlock Holmes… I’ve read the Wheel of Time 6 times and I don’t leave home without at least one of the books in my car at any given time. I go to DragonCon and Jordan Con and dress as Nynaeve and Lanfear!”*

Location: I live in Columbia, SC

1. How did you get into the industry?

I got into the industry after doing on-screen personality work for Fox in Charleston. Afterwards I signed on for a student film for USC. It sorta snow balled from there. Networking basically got me into acting since I finally had on-screen work on a resume. I reached out to an agent and then started scouring for work. I’d always wanted to act but didn’t know how to get into it. I knew I didn’t want to do personality work only – I wanted to actually create characters.

2. What Scream Queen inspired you most?

I was originally inspired by Janet Leigh in Psycho… though her daughter Jamie Lee Curtis came in 2nd place…

3. What are the next couple projects you are working on?

I am working on a project called Happy Together about a serial killer and a contract killer finding love. I really MUST tell you the story on how that script came about. It’s really something. I’m working on a 3 part movie called Take That where I play a vampire… It’s being filmed in 3 parts. Part 1 is finished and has screened…1 part is in post and the final piece is in pre-production. The effects are great but turns out I just really don’t die that easily. Stakes through the heart just won’t cut it. I cannot decide whether I want to be the killer or be killed. I played a hit woman in a short film called Uncivil and I guess I just like being the bad guy. I whipped the hell out of a serial rapist in Turned Tables and I guess I just like being mean LOL. I’m also scheduled to work on a supernatural film called Worldly Possessions at the beginning of the year.
