Scriptures and Screams: Demonical: Darkness Unbound CD Review
After several line-up changes and additions, Demonical has released their fourth studio album, and their Death Metal continues to impress and rage in the darkness. Even through all of the line-up changes and sit ins that occurred during touring and recording, Sverker Widgren (vocals), Martin Schulman (bass), Daniel Gustavsson (guitars), Johan Haglund (guitars) and Ämir Batar (drums) manage to create a album that delivers a controlled fury of evilness and brutality. Tracks like “King of All”, “DeathCrown” and “The Great Praise” are some of the longer tracks that help to convey a sense of dread and uneasiness, while other tracks like “The Order”, “An Endless Celebration”, “Contempt and Conquest”, ‘The Healing Control”, “Hellfire Empire” and “Words Are Death” are shorter but with a heavier tone and a controlled brutality that will have you thrashing about while listening. Changing their style and tempo several times during the course of the album, Demonical manages to keep you on your toes while listening, showing that Death Metal still has legs and can expand in ways the average person may not have considered. If you are looking for something that is not outright screaming the whole time and computerized drum blasts, then this is for you. Fans of Cannibal Corpse, Morbid Angel, Vader and Deicide will all find something they like on this CD and should pick it up now!
