Buffyverse Fan Film, LURK, Still Alive and Kicking!

1545051_577974562284864_1016717805_nA few months ago I broke the news that a “Buffy The Vampire Slayer” fan film was in the works. The short film, titled Lurk, is currently in production but will not follow any of the well known characters Buffy, Giles, Xander, Willow, Faith, etc. No, Lurk will follow an official Buffyverse character created by Joss Whedon who was manifested through comic book form.

Melaka Fray was unleashed to the world in 2001 courtesy of Joss Whedon and Dark Horse Comics. The eight part mini comic book series follows Melaka Fray in the 23rd Century while she discovers that she is the latest in a long line of vampire slayers. More importantly she is one of the only known slayers to be called since demons were banished from the world sometime in the 21st Century. Melaka must battle lurks (the future term for vampires) alongside her Watcher-of-sorts, Urkonn, who are currently under the command of a powerful vampire…Melaka’s brother, Harth.

Melaka also appeared in a few issues of season Buffy Season Eight.

The short film now in production, Lurk, will follow Melaka Fray on one of her many adventures and battles against evil.

With production well underway, behind-the-scenes photos are being posted on the film’s Facebook page, which you should follow here: From first looks at the vampires, to introducting main characters, and showcasing an amazing FX team and stunt team – these behind-the-scenes shots have it all! And I’ve included all the best for you below.

The slayer herself, Stefanie Woodburn , looking ready to continue the battle against lurks.

Introducing Fray’s siblings: cop Erin (played by Hutchi Hancock) and vampiric half sibling Harth (played by musician Noah West). Noah has music available here:

A first look at the vampires in Lurk. A great mix of comical Buffy movie monsters and iconic television creatures.

Don’t let the term fan film fool you. These guys have a $13,000+ budget…and a stunt team that will kick your ass.

And a pretty good effects department too!
