Don’t Look in the Basement 2 Now in Pre-Production!

Long thought dead horror franchises are really making a comeback lately. First, 1959’s Attack of The Killer Shrews received a sequel in 2013; followed by the announcement that Declan O’Brien would be helming the new Joy Ride sequel six years after the last installment. And now it looks like 1973’s Don’t Look in the Basement is receiving a sequel forty years after the now actualized franchise began. This is certainly an interesting tidbit of horror cinema history, and a sequel I’m definitely looking forward to.

Want to know something else that’s really cool and a nice serving of horror movie trivia? The director of the sequel, titled Id: Don’t Look in the Basement 2, is none other than the original director’s (S.F. Brownrigg) son, Anthony Brownrigg, the director of the award winning film Red Victoria. It’s like the series is now becoming a family tradition; and I bet Anthony’s father couldn’t be prouder! When principal photography of Don’t Look in the Basement 2 starts in late March, Mr. Brownrigg will be directing the cast and crew at the infamous house where the film’s predecessor was located. I mean, really, if we want to talk direct horror sequels – this is as good as it gets! It’ll be a walk down memory lane with blood and guts (and tits, maybe?) thrown all over it.

Casting is almost complete, but confirmed actors attached to Id: Don’t Look in the Basement 2 include Arianne Martin (Red Victoria, Drive Angry), Frank Mosley (“Lunch Break,” “Alouette”), Andrew Sensenig (Dylan Dog: Dead of Night, The Last Exorcism II), Frederic Doss (Pot Zombies, Patient Zero), Jim O’Rear (Hayride Slaughter II, The Hospital), Megan Emerick (who also serves as writer) and many more.

“In 1973, in a small town in Texas, Stephens Sanitarium was the site of a grizzly tragedy. Doctor Stephens was brutally murdered, and with no one else in charge, the patients took over control of the asylum. The only surviving patient was found a week later alone in the building. Forty years later, Doctor William Matthews had a budding career as a doctor in New York City, until a tragic incident involving his wife changed his life. Seeking to escape the past he accepts a job at a small clinic in Texas as a clinical psychiatrist for the mentally ill.

The clinic itself has struggled for years, and the clinics administrator Emily has hired William in to handle a special patient in the hopes of bolstering the clinics press and benefactors. The patient, Sam Withers is seventy four year old man who still suffers from a lobotomy he had received in 1968 at the hands of Doctor Terrance Stephens at the Stephens Sanitarium. Little does anyone know that GreenPark is located in the same building as Stephens Sanitarium. Sam is returning home. And something sinister is waiting in the shadows.”
