In news that comes as a no-brainer for most, it was announced today by AMC they have renewed their mega-hit TV show, The Walking Dead for another season. The show will return in 2015 for its sixth season on the network. Read on for more details.
The news comes as Season 5 of the zombie apocalypse drama premieres this Sunday at 9 PM ET/PT. Scott Gimple will return as the series’ showrunner/executive producer for Season 6 along with executive producers Robert Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd, David Alpert, Greg Nicotero and Tom Luse.
The series has been the number one show on TV with adults 18-49 for the past two years. The Season 4 premiere broke cable viewership records with 16.1 million viewers and 10.4 million adults 18-49, and for the season Walking Dead averaged 13.3 million total viewers and 8.6 million adults 18-49, up 24% and 22%, respectively, over Season 3.
If the series continues to roll on the way it has for the past four seasons, look for more viewership records to be broken. The network has also given the green light to a spin-off series set in the same zombie universe but with different characters and a different location.
