Andrews delivered solid zombie story elements that are still unseen in other productions like “The Walking Dead” and “Z Nation.” I really encourage you to purchase or rent SICK when it is released on January 6th, 2015.

SICK SPREADING THE SICKNESS TO DVD & VOD

November 28th, 2014 – The sickness spreads this January. The Canadian, dramatic zombie horror SICK directed and co-written by Ryan M. Andrews hits DVD and VOD in North America at the start of 2015. The award winning film, staring Christina Anne Aceto (Let Me In), Richard Sutton (William’s Lullaby), Robert Nolan (Familiar), and Scream Queen Debbie Rochon (Tromeo & Juliet) takes a look at the zombie apocalypse in a whole new and dramatic way.

Andrews expresses, “what scares me the most, if a zombie apocalypse ever occurred, is how pointless it would feel. Day after day, sleeping with one eye open, fearing the living just as much as the dead. Living is worse than death.” These are the character driven elements explored in SICK, offering horror fans a mature and artful look at the popular subgenre.

The story takes place two years after the infection began. Billions have died, Governments have collapsed and the human race is on the brink of extinction. Dr. Leigh Rozetta is a young maverick scientist who was taken to a secret underground facility in search of a cure, since the outbreak began. After constant failed attempts, Leigh sneaks away to return to her parent’s house and the life she once knew, that is no longer there. En route, she crosses paths with two militant survivalists, who only just barely escaped an attack of a group of infected people. With nightfall close at hand, the three of them know they need to seek shelter as the SICK are more active at night. Boarding themselves up in Leigh’s parents’ house, the three strangers must learn to trust and work together if they hope to survive the night.

It’s not only the story that Andrews wanted to offer something different with to the fans. The look of the film also defies conventional styles. As the first act primarily takes place outside in the open and then slowly closes in to tighter locations throughout the film, Andrews and his cinematographer Michael Jari Davidson decided the look of the film should mirror this. The first act only uses 18MM, 25MM and 35MM lenses, while the second act only uses 25MM, 35MM and 50MM and the third act only uses 35MM, 50MM and 85MM. Though this does away with the standard close up and coverage style of filmmaking, it was the choice made for the art of storytelling. As the story draws in tighter, as does everything else creating a claustrophobic feeling within the film.

Experience the horror for yourself January 6th, 2015 and spread the sickness!
