I have a lot of obsessions.  Horror,Doctor Who, Marvel comics, heavy metal.  However, one of the obsessions I have that my wife does not agree with is with the Canadian mockumentary television show Trailer Park Boys.  I first saw the television show in late 2011 when I first signed up for Netflix.  The show immediately pulled me in and I was hooked instantly.

Since 2011 I have watched the entire show multiple times, as well as, the movies they have released.  2014 has been a very busy year for the fine folks over at the Sunnyvale Trailer Park.  They released a brand new season, a Christmas special, a new stand-up special, and a new movie.  The movie, Don’t Legalize It, just hit Netflix not long ago and I had to check it out and review.

**Spoiler Alert**The film takes place not long after season 8 with the death of Ricky’s father Ray.  The trailer park gathers at the dump to pay their respects to Ray before heading back to Sunnyvale to work on Julian’s next get rich quick scheme.  Julian has partnered with his nemesis Cyrus to bottle piss to sell to tokers and stoners so they can pass drug tests.  Ricky wants no part in the piss business and continues to grow and sell his special pot and hash while Bubbles is selling chicken and swoosh to the trailer park residents.

The three are a bit distant now but a series of unexpected events pushes their friendship to the brink when Canada holds a hearing to make pot legal forcing dope growers to go out of business once big companies are allowed to do it legally.  Ricky plans on attending this hearing so he can put his two cents into it but Julian refuses to go with him because he has a big piss deal going down.

While the two argue about which is more important, Bubbles gets news that his parents have passed and if he doesn’t meet with the lawyer soon he will lose it all.  To make matters worse, Lahey is trying to foil Ricky and his pot growing dreams.  Now the three has to try to work together to achieve all their goals of lose their friendships for personal gains.**Spoiler Alert**

The Trailer Park Boys is something I could never tire of in the same way I can watch every episode of Doctor Who over and over again.  The TPB tend to use the same jokes and gags over and over again but they always do it in a different manner making the joke feel new.  On the other hand, the movies are more of what we get in the television show but on a much bigger scale which make them stand a head above their television counterparts.  Don’t Legalize It is no exception.  The film gives us more of what we love about TPB but with a bigger story and budget (Netflix foot the bill on this one).

The acting in this one is what we have come to expect from TPB.  The characters are perfectly polished by this point and the cast seamlessly fall into their roles making it enjoyable to watch.  The story for this one is one they have done over and over and over again.  As the three try to get rich by illegal means without getting caught by the police while Lahey fucks with them the whole time.  The film does add a little depth to the film with the three almost going their separate ways.  I’m not used to seeing TPB take on something that deep but they did pull it off and made the viewer love the characters even more.

Finally, the film has a ton of laughs with a majority of the jokes new ones that have never been done in the show and previous films.  A lot of thought and originality went into the humor and it shows.  Overall, Don’t Legalize It is a great expansion in the Trailer Park Boys universe.   The film has a great story and tons of humor making it a great TPB film but a great stand alone film as well for those that have never seen anything TPB related.  Check this instant classic out now on Netflix!
