Women in Horror: Sophia Crawford

Sophia Crawford 2During the month of February we honor Women in Horror who metaphorically kick ass with all they accomplish in the world of scary movies. But, I’d be remiss if I didn’t acknowledge one woman who literally makes a living by kicking ass in horror titles and science fiction features. One of the first women who come to mind is Sophia Crawford, who I had the pleasure of chatting with way back in 2011. Sophia has performed stunts and coordinated stunt choreography on a number of noteworthy projects including iconic shows of yesteryear and current box office smash hits.

Sophia Crawford’s television stunt work includes being the Pink Ranger’s double in “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers” in 1994, “Charmed” in 1998, “Roswell” in 1999, Sarah Michelle Gellar’s double in “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” from 1997 to 2000, “Birds of Prey” in 2002, and “The Originals” in 2014. Her film stunt work includes Scream 2 (1997), Shriek If I Know What You Did Last Friday the 13th (2000), Scary Movie 3 (2003), Dylan Dog: Dead of Night (2010), No One Lives (2012), and Insidious: Chapter 2 (2013).

Outside of horror and science fiction Sophia has performed stunts for Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back (2001), Bubble Boy (2001), “24” in 2001, “NCIS” in 2003, Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy (2004), “Veronica Mars” in 2004, “CSI: NY” in 2004, Mission: Impossible 3 (2006), Poseidon (2006), “Bones” in 2006, “My Name is Earl” in 2008, Angels & Demons (2009), and G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra (2009).
