Women in Horror: Maria Olsen

1000415_468138443270846_592555182_nMaria Olsen has been making strides in both the independent horror scene and in Hollywood produced projects. Her success can be attributed to her dedication to the genre and a desire to conquer all aspects of film creation. Although she’s only been in the entertainment business for seven years, she’s had a noteworthy career so far and has accomplished much more than people who’ve been in the game a lot longer. I had to recognize her today, during Women in Horror Month, for all the hard work she’s put in. I’m not even really sure where she finds the time to sleep…

Behind the scenes, Maria has taken on a number of jobs including casting associate and director, costume supervisor, still photographer, and writer. However, the brunt of her work behind the camera is as a producer. She has taken part in producing feature films including Folklore (2012), Way Down in Chinatown (2013), Live-In Fear (2014), Faraway (2014), and Something Sinister (2014). She also served as a producer on a number of upcoming titles such as Reunion, The Road Killer, and Squeal: Blood Harvest – all due for release in the next two years.

She’s even gone as far as to open her own studio, MOnsterworks66, which helps to actively produce projects and to help promote all aspects of the independent horror community. MOnsterworks66’s goal is to connect the right workers together so a movie can get made!

As an actress Olsen has appeared in titles including Die-ner (2009), Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief (2010), Paranormal Activity 3 (2011), DisOrientation (2012), The Haunting of Whaley House (2012), The Lords of Salem (2012), To Jennifer (2013), The Bunnyman Massacre (2014), Starry Eyes (2014), and Hansel vs. Gretel (2015).
