The Eleventh annual Festivalito La Palma, a Film Festival that takes place on La Palma Island, Canaries, Spain, from May 13-21. 2016, will pay tribute to 42 year old independent film company Troma Entertainment and its president Lloyd Kaufman, it was announced today by Elizabeth D’Ambrosio, spokesperson for Troma Entertainment.

Festivalito La Palma was the first film festival in Europe to focus only on digital filmmaking (chine chico). Also it was the first to include on site shootings using new technology during its celebration by guest directors. Every year Festivalito features a different theme and a filmmaker to pay tribute to. This year is TROMA and Lloyd Kaufman will receive the festival’s Estrella Polar, a life achievement honorary award.

Among a selection of films from new directors internationally, the event will also feature Troma Classics like Toxic Avenger and Tromeo and Juliet! Also, for the first time ever in Spain, Festivalito La Palma will show recent Troma feature length release, Return to Nuke ‘Em High Volume1!

La Isla del Infierno (Hell’s Island), filmed in Canary Islands and distributed internationally by Troma, will also screen at Festivalito. It’s an adventure movie set during the days of the conquest of the Canaries by the Spaniards, written and directed by Javier  F. Caldas.

Another Tromatic highlight of this edition of Festivalito La Palma will be a Master Class taught by Lloyd Kaufman himself, based on his written instructional and insightful books, All I needed to know about Filmmaking I learned from The Toxic Avenger.

This year, a collaborative tromatic feature film will be shot during the event. It’ll be a homage to Lloyd Kaufman and the kind of cinema that Troma Entertainment represents, Unapologetically Independent. The script is being written collectively through an open internet blog, under the working title Alienígenas Sin Piedad (Merciless Aliens). It tells the story of a group of superior Aliens who discover the Earth is being destroyed by a plague, the plague is humanity and the Aliens come to exterminate the plague! Lloyd Kaufman, will direct one of the vignettes and will act for some of the other directors.
Festivalito La Palma is holding a crowdfunding campaign to benefit all of the filmmakers involved in making the project a true success and an important example in the rare genre of collective filmmaking. Supporters of True Independent Art can collaborate to the campaign donating in the following link: https://vkm.is/festivalito.

Troma Entertainment has just released a hilarious, bilingual (and slightly bisexual) Tromatic promotion for the upcoming festival! You can see the video on the Troma Movies YouTube channel! See Lloyd Kaufman speak Spanish here!
