“Scream: The TV Series” – Episode 2.02, Psycho
BEWARE: FULL EPISODE SPOILERS TO FOLLOW!

Still Screaming: We pick up right where we left off in last week’s episode with Emma screaming as Ghostface makes a brief appearance on the other side of the dark room before jetting off into the shadows. Emma easily flees the house since she’s not actually being chased and Brooke proves that she has grown tremendously over the last year and is the strong minded individual who drags Emma to safety and ushers them to the car to get out of danger before things get worse. This could be another Scream 2 homage, as seen with Hallie (Elise Neal) trying to drag Sydney to safety with the whole “smart people run away” line.

Why Are You Lying… Still: That evening Emma brings up the abandoned barn on the James’ residence to her mother, Maggie. Maggie divulges that Emma has been to the barn before, several times. After the initial Brandon James murders, the town of Lakewood hated the family, so they retreated to the farm that was owned by Troy James, Brandon’s brother, until they could find a safer community to move to that would not know and hate them. Maggie, not being able to turn her back on the fucked up family, visited them several times with Emma in tow. Emma is hurt that her mother kept secrets from her again, but Maggie gives her usual go to answer – she didn’t think it would matter. To make it up to her daughter, Maggie takes Emma back to the barn to figure things out and they discover that it’s been emptied of the furniture and Emma shrine.

Just Get Back Together Already: The next morning Maggie goes to wake Emma for school, but discovers that she’s already left. Emma is at Kieran’s and is telling him about what happened last night. Kieran, of course, is urging Emma to go to the cops, but she doesn’t want to. There’s a part of her that thinks maybe her brain made it up and that she came home from treatment too early. Kieran comforts her by saying it’s normal, since he saw things too right after his dad, Sheriff Clark, was murdered by Ghostface live at the prom last year. Emma leaves for school and Kieran doesn’t for some reason, and an old, blue car starts following Emma. Not a Scream homage, but it definitely felt like Halloween.

School is So Interesting: Everything seems to happen at Lakewood High right before class starts. Noah is still on the trail of the supposed third accomplice/internet troll, telling Audrey that there’s another guy who claims he saw Piper Shaw talking to another accomplice. Emma and Brooke are talking about what happened last night, with Brooke being somewhat skeptical seeing that Emma was also seeing visions of her dead boyfriend, Will, last year. The groups all meet together, along with Kieran, and Noah calls them The Lakewood 6, but Brooke says they’re The Lakewood 5 since she broke up with Jake and no one has seen him since. They all seem a tad suspicious, but unbothered. The girl who pranked Audrey at the movie theater, Haley, starts texting Audrey just as Ghostface does, leading Audrey to believe she’s the one sending her all the threatening messages. Turns out she’s wrong! Zoe meets Emma at her locker and wants to know why she never showed up for tutoring to catch up on all the school she missed while in treatment. Mrs. Karen, the psychology teacher, is still continuing her dark and moody lectures, which allows Noah and Zoe to have another moment, but I’m still pushing Noah to end up with Gustavo.

Filler, Filler, Chicken Dinner: Now we get a bunch of filler scenes to drive the plot along without taking up too much time. Brooke’s dad is conveniently out of jail despite covering up the murder of a drug addict in his house. He’s already up to shady business and tries to call Jake. Sheriff Acosta is in Kieran’s house with his Aunt Tina. Kieran is only 17 and Aunt Tina is appointed his legal guardian and she contemplates moving him away from Lakewood. Brooke goes to the police to file a missing person’s report for Jake, but she gets a text from his phone just before it goes live. Emma meets a strange boy who knows her name and is really creepy. Maggie goes to see Aunt Tina about something.

Student Teacher Relationships: Emma takes Mrs. Karen up on the offer to talk about her trauma and they meet at the coffee shop. Emma and Mrs. Karen discuss her PTSD and Emma gets hit with it big time when she publicly freaks the fuck out because she thinks she sees Piper Shaw, but it just turns out to be a random girl. Mrs. Karen keeps telling Emma that “Piper Shaw is gone,” and I find it suspicious that she never uses the word dead.

I’m Getting Bored: Another set of filler scenes. Someone leaves Brooke a huge display of roses and a card that say’s I’m sorry on it, which ultimately believes to be Jake. She’s so happy they’re together again that she finally tells her Dad that she’s dating his blackmailer, and he’s obviously not too happy about that. The creepy guy who knew Emma out of no where turns out to be Kieran’s cousin, Eli. Emma and Kieran go to the dock where Piper was beaten as a form of closure. Emma briefly sees Ghostface on the other side of the lake, but it’s just another vision. This all arouses her for some reason and she and Kieran have sex, cementing their relationship once again.

The No Tell Motel: Noah follows a lead to a motel on the outskirts of Lakewood. It’s definitely a Psycho homage. The front desk worker claims he saw Piper Shaw talking with a female accomplice near a storage unit on the opposite end of town. He’s about to describe the accomplice when Ghostface calls and warns him to shut up or he’ll be murdered next. It’s revealed to be Audrey in all black and using a voice changer in an attempt to keep it quite that she was the accomplice.

All’s Well That Ends Well, I Guess: Instead of getting moved to another state, Kieran’s Aunt Tina and Cousin Eli decide to move in to Sheriff Clark’s house as to not uproot Kieran from his home. Emma is happy that he’s not leaving and skips home. While on her way, the mysterious blue car starts following her again. Suddenly it turns its lights on and begins speeding up on her. It stops as it’s about to run it over and Emma screams to know who the driver is. The figure gets out of the car… and it’s her dad, again. He’s back in Lakewood and wants to make things up to her. On the opposite side of town, Audrey goes to the storage unit to get rid of any evidence that could have been left behind, but instead she finds a dozen pine needle air fresheners… and a very, very dead Jake.
