She was truly an original!

As confirmed by previous co-stars and her manager, Jim Nolt, Noel Neill has passed away at age 95. Noel died at her home in Tuscon, Arizona following a long battle with an unconfirmed illness. She is most known for being the first actress to play the iconic role of Lois Lane in the Superman franchise.

With almost 80 credits to her name, Noel Neill started her career in the entertainment industry as a model and night club singer before transitioning to acting. She appeared in dozens of titles in uncredited or bit parts; the ones in our genres including The Remarkable Andrew (1942), Lady of Burlesque (1943), Rainbow Island (1944), Whistling Hills (1951), Invasion U.S.A. (1952) and Surge of Power (2006).

Her big break came in 1948 when she booked the role of Lois Lane in serials Superman (1948) and Atom-Man vs. Superman (1950). In 1953 she took over the role of Lois Lane in “Adventures of Superman” when Phyllis Coates stepped down to take a bigger role elsewhere. Neill then co-starred on the show for 78 episodes from 1953 to 1958. Noel retired after the show concluded, but she returned to the franchise again, this time playing Lois Lane’s mother in Superman (1978) and Superman: The 50th Anniversary (1988). She even had a bit part in Superman Returns (2006).

Her last ever film role was the recently completed Surge of Power: Revenge of the Sequel, which is due out in 2017.

All of us here at HorrorSociety.com send our condolensces to her family, friends and fans. She was known for musicals, comedies and westerns… but she’ll always be the perfect Lois Lane.
