Child’s Play 7 is Still in Development!

With so many new installments and remakes on the horizon, it can be difficult to keep track of our most beloved horror franchises. Back in February, Child’s Play visionary Don Mancini was discovered to be chatting with franchise star Jennifer Tilly on Twitter in regards to the location of the next entry in the series, which I’ll just call Child’s Play 7. The social media conversation was joined by previous survivor girl Fiona Dourif, who starred in Curse of Chucky, leading fans to believe she could be involved in the new movie, too. Comments were mixed, with some folks eager and excited to see Chucky back in murderous action and others complaining that the story should have ended after Bride of Chucky in 1998.

While the franchise did continue following Chucky’s unholy matrimony to demon doll Tiffany with the mildly successful Seed of Chucky (2004) and direct-to-DVD sequel Curse of Chucky (2013), even I can admit that the saga can use a return to its roots. That’s why I’m surprised that fans lambasted Curse of Chucky despite its slasher elements over gag humor and the way the closing bonus material made the whole thing canonical to Child’s Play and Child’s Play 2. Honestly, Child’s Play 2 was one of the first horror films I watched – at 7-years-old – and because of that it will always have a place near to my heart. I could talk about it for hours, so let me return to the subject of my post…

It’s been six months since anyone has seen anything Child’s Play 7 related, but glancing over Don Mancini’s Twitter page shows me that the new film is still very much in development. With characters so introverted into the story-line, I can see why whipping a movie together may take a little longer than usual – all of the right elements have to be in place. So, I’m excited to see that the writer, director and producer is still hard at work here and maybe we’ll see Child’s Play 7 by Halloween 2017. Thank god for social media as it is a great source for entertainment insiders to talk about their projects and even drop us a couple of hints. Check out the proof below:
