Can Don’t Breathe Keep The #1 Spot For A Second Week?

Weekend estimates have officially been reported and horror-thriller Don’t Breathe has retained the number one spot over the weekend. During its debut week – August 26 to September 1 – the new film from Screen Gems and Sony took the number one spot on the all important Friday chart, earning $35,424,000 in its first week of release and leaving Suicide Squad trailing behind by about $15,000,000.

Only problem now is Suicide Squad has caught up with a much smaller margin and only trailed Don’t Breathe by $5,700,000 this weekend. Though it’s already been in release for almost five weeks, Suicide Squad is in 240 more theaters than Don’t Breathe and it has more of a push from Warner Bros. I have a feeling it’s going to be a fight to the finish this week, but there’s still a chance Don’t Breathe can retain the number one spot for a second week.

Being that it’s Labor Day Weekend, anything is possible. So, you know what to do. Get out to theaters and support horror!

In other news, horror-thriller Morgan, in a limited release, pulled in $1,960,000 this weekend.

Top 5 – September 2 to September 4:
1 Don’t Breathe – $15,700,000
2 Suicide Squad – $10,005,000
3 Pete’s Dragon – $6,471,000
4 Kubo & The Two Strings – $6,467,000
5 Sausage Party – $5,300,000
