Charmed Reboot in Development at The CW.

Even though “Charmed” cast its last spell in 2006, numerous rumors of reboots and sequel series have been prevalent since at least 2012. The series has been kept alive though a semi-canon comic book series produced by Zenoscope, but yesterday evening news broke that is going to surprise a lot of people. An official “Charmed” reboot is currently in development on the original show’s home network, The CW. Here’s what we know so far.

The CW has ordered a one hour pilot, which is common place when networks want to see what a show has to offer before giving it a full season pick-up. Being that the script isn’t 100% finalized, a casting announcement has been posted online with several character breakdowns. This “Charmed” reboot will take place in 1976 and will feature three unrelated female witches who assemble to fight evil. Though they won’t be sisters and won’t have The Power of Three, sources claim that the reboot will still possess a “loose connection” to the original show.

Jennie Snyder Urman (“Jane the Virgin,” “90210,” “Emily Owens MD”) is currently serving as show runner, which is a good sign that the “Charmed” reboot could get picked-up due to her involvement in three former CW shows. Jessica O’Toole and Amy Rardin are penning the pilot script.

“Charmed” ran on The WB/The CW from 1998 to 2006, spanning eight seasons and 178 episodes. It starred Holly Marie Combs, Alyssa Milano, Rose McGowan, Shannen Doherty and Brian Krause. While Milano and McGowan have been vocal in their negative criticisms about a reboot without them, Combs took to Twitter yesterday to share a positive, supportive message.
