‘Constantine’ Back From the Dead as Animated Series.

Based on the DC Comic, fans of the character and critics were thrilled when “Constantine” received a full season order from NBC. The supernatural-horror show aired on that network from October 2014 to February 2015, but unfortunately not as many people tuned into the 13 episode arc as NBC had hoped for and the network giant cancelled “Constantine” in May 2015. People really wanted this show to be picked up by Netflix or another network like FX, but pilot season and other television events passed and it seemed like “Constantine” was gone for good. That was until today. “Constantine” is back from the dead… but not in the way you would suspect!

It was announced at the Television Critics Association that “Constantine” has been renewed by The CW… as an animated series! This makes sense for two reasons. The CW is on a hit streak right now due to show’s like “Arrow,” “The Flash,” “Super Girl” and “Legends of Tomorrow,” so “Constantine” fits in right at home with the network’s demographic. Also, by producing the next installment of “Constantine” as an animated series, it gives executives a way to make the series what they want it to be while keeping the costs way low. No need to pay for explosions and special effects when you can draw them!

And even better news, Matt Ryan is returning as the voice of John Constantine. Matt Ryan has already reprised the role in an episode of “Arrow” in 2015 and voiced the character in upcoming Justice League Dark, so I’m not surprised he jumped at the chance to take on this role again.

“Constantine: The Animated Series” will be broadcast on The CW Seed, a branch of the major network that provides digital content. Each episode will be ten minutes long with sources saying that each season will consist of 5 or 6 episodes; almost like a mini-movie every year.
