Horror Sales: 47 Meters Down Swims to the #5 Spot This Weekend.

What a perfect time for a shark attack movie, besides Labor Day, of course. Horror-thriller 47 Meters Down premiered across the country in 2,270 theaters this weekend, courtesy of Entertainment Studios. The new movie, directed by Johannes Roberts and starring Mandy Moore, is off to a decent start after taking the #5 spot from June 16 – June 18, 2017. It made $11,500,000 in ticket sales, which undoubtedly covered most of its production costs, so this little fishy should be able to make its full money back weeks end. Congratulations on a successful flick, team!

The Mummy manages to stay a notch ahead of 47 Meters Down and came in at #4 this weekend and added another $13,916,000 to its domestic total. The current tally sits at $56,526,000, which is still a long way to $145,000,000. Tom Cruise’s latest movie is in danger of being a major flop. Also, It Comes at Night managed to hold on to another top 10 placing after coming in at #10 with $2,616,000. Its current ticket gross sits at $11,139,000. While it’ll be successful, it’s not the big hit I thought it would be.

Elsewhere on the chart, Alien: Covenant came in at #17 with just $475,000 in ticket sales, bringing its total to $72,661,000. The prequel-sequel is also in danger of being a flop as its still a long way from its $117,000,000 budget.

You know what this means? Go see a horror film or two this weekend!
