Friend Request Under-performs, IT Battles Kingsman for #1.

Friend Request begins its chart run at #7 this weekend, grossing $2,400,000 in ticket sales from 2,573 theaters. Directed by Simon Verhoeven and starring Fear the Walking Dead‘s Alycia Debnam-Carey, Friend Request was produced on a budget of $20,000,000 and I feel like it’s going to struggle to make that all back. Luckily, the horror film from Entertainment Studios was already released in foreign markets at the beginning of the year. It made $7,300,000 in foreign countries with $2,110,000 coming just out of The UK. It’ll be interesting to see how much Friend Request makes in The United States by Friday.

After spending two weeks at #1, the Stephen King remake IT easily secures the #2 spot on the charts this weekend with $30,000,000 in ticket sales. It also notches a new record, officially beating The Exorcist to become the #1 R rated horror film of all time. Not to mention it’s already the seventh best selling film of 2017. It should be noted that IT‘s locked in a battle with Kingsman: The Golden Circle. The new action flick was only $8,000,000 ahead and that could be recouped by Friday’s all important chart. IT‘s current box office total stands at $266,388,000.

mother! is the #6 movie this weekend, adding an addition $3,200,000 to its overall accumulation of $13,429,000. Produced on a budget of $40,000,000, it doesn’t look like the Jennifer Lawrence movie is going to be the flop that people are claiming it to be, though it won’t be a huge seller either.

Elsewhere on the chart, Annabelle: Creation crosses the $100,000,000 mark and comes in as the #14 movie this weekend. Its current box office gross is $101,092,000. As of this writing, it’s outsold its predecessor by $16,000,000.
