Insidious: The Last Key Made $29 Million This Weekend.

The first big horror release of 2018, Insidious 4: The Last Key is doing quite well in theaters. According to Box Office Mojo, the new and potentially last entry in the series is estimated to have made $29,265,000 in ticket sales this weekend after hitting 3,116 theaters courtesy of Universal. It’s for sure a success story when considering it already recouped its entire production budget of $25,000,000 (filming and media combined), but can it nab the #1 spot on the all important Friday chart?

It’s a gamble, really. Despite raking in nearly $30,000,000, Insidious 4: The Last Key was the #2 movie this weekend, beaten only by Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and its $36,000,000 in ticket sales. It should be noted that Jumanji is entering its third week in theaters and could putter out by the end of the week, giving Insidious a chance to leap-frog it. It should also be noted that Star Wars: The Last Jedi came in at #3 with $23,551,000 and its staying power could become a problem despite being in its fourth week in release.

So, we’re looking at a debut between #1 and #3. Not bad for such a strong week at the box office. Here’s how the series has performed during all of its opening weekends.

Insidious – $13,271,000
Insidious 2 – $40,272,000
Insidious 3 – $22,692,000
Insidious 4 – $29,265,000
