Johnnard Harper’s Don’t Text Back Completes Principal Photography.

Be Careful Who You Message in New Johnnard Harper Horror Flick

Johnnard Harper returns to the realm of short films with his highly anticipated, technologically based horror-thriller, Don’t Text Back. A mash-up of Takashi Miike’s One Missed Call and Gore Verbinski’s The Ring, Don’t Text Back follows April and her boyfriend, Derek, who unknowingly unleash a sinister presence after texting a mysterious phone number. Denisha R. Hardeman, Drew Shotwell, Ava Washington and Kyle Lee star in this upcoming title from writer/director Johnnard Harper.

Frontdoorfilm Works aims to bring urban legends back to the small screen in 2018 with Don’t Text Back. Harper says, “Movies like Urban Legend and The Ring never go out of style. The ‘what if the stories are shrouded in truth’ plot always hits horror fans in the gut because they’re based on real life fear and uncertainty. What if a playful game turned into something darker, something scarier that changes your life forever. “

Principal photography took place in Texas on December 29 and December 30, 2017. The short film was produced by Moe Morris, Sergio LeRoy and Anthony Leone with Horror Society’s Michael DeFellipo. Qasim Barnes served as cinematographer.

Don’t Text Back is currently in post-production edits courtesy of Timothy Tse. Look for it at film festivals near you in the coming months.

Harper’s previous film, Captured, is currently nominated for two awards at the Independent Horror Movies Awards. There, Don’t Text Back’s Denisha R. Hardeman is nominated for “Best Actress.”
