Acclaimed Author Fernando Rivera Readies Debut Short Film ‘Where Monster Hides.’

Oh, word? Stop the motha’ fuckin’ presses! Yes, it’s that time again! Time for me to momentarily lose my faculties and any resemblance of an education because I’m just that excited about an upcoming movie. Fernando Rivera is one of my favorite artists. Writing and creating a captivating story is just as much an art form as using brushes and markers. I was pointed in his direction by fellow writer Michael Varrati in September 2017; three months after Rivera’s debut novel, The Afterliving (His Blood & Silver Book 1), reached publication through Fern & Doe Media. In a nutshell, his 22-five star reviewed book was incredibly written and highlighted with gleams of horror, romance, drama, and one of the most unique takes on vampirism that I’ve ever experienced. You can read my full review here, if you’re so inclined. Since then and as a reporter, I’ve had my eye on Fernando in anticipation of his next endeavor in hopes that it would be horror related, too. Well, it looks like the wait is over and the up-and-coming creator has granted my most sincere wish.

Fernando Rivera is about to leap mediums and tackle the world of film production. Shared over his personal Instagram page, where you can also find inspiration for your workouts through his bodybuilding pictures, it was recently announced that the Texas-California transplant is readying his debut short film, Where Monster Hides. If anyone knows how to tell a story and pack a ton of content into a single plot, it’s Mr. Rivera, and I’m extremely excited and intrigued to see how his most recent vision will translate from script to film. Based on his screenplay, Where Monster Hides sees nostalgia quickly turns to terror when a young man realize his apartment resembles drawings from a monster book he made as a child. Soon, it becomes apparent that his macabre fantasies were more than an over-active imagination, and the creature in his book is anything but fiction. The short film features cinematography from Guy Pooles and recently ended post-production editing thanks to Exposed with Deborah Norville‘s Jasen Frisby.

If penning the script wasn’t enough, it has been confirmed that Fernando Rivera directed and produced the film, and he also plays the lead role of Beto Chavez. Although he’s held guest roles in popular television shows including Franklin & Bash, NCIS, and Southland, Where Monster Hides will be his first starring role while serving as his debut as a director and producer. Jane the Virgin‘s Norma Maldonado will co-lead as Beto’s mother, with Logan Frisby playing Beto as a child and Matt Steele rounding out the cast as the all important head monster. A trailer for the short film is featured below, and you can expect to see Where Monster Hides at a film festival near you very soon. And I’ll let you know when that time comes. Stay tuned!
