R.I.P. Tank Girl, Outcast Actor Reg E. Cathey.

Sources including E Online and ScreenRant are reporting that versatile, award winning actor Reg E. Cathey has passed away. He was 59-years-old at the time of his passing on February 9, 2018, and his cause of death is attributed to a battle with lung cancer. According to Variety, a spokesperson at Netflix confirmed the sad news by saying, “We are heartbroken by the passing of our friend and House of Cards colleague Reg E. Cathey. Reg was the kindest man, the most giving actor, and a true gentleman. Our sympathy goes to his family.”

An Alabama native, Reg E. Cathey appeared in a number of comedies including Loose Cannons (1990), Airheads (1994) and Pootie Tang (2001), as well as the hit thriller The Machinist (2004). His television roles were equally as impressive. He recurred as Martin Querns in “OZ” from 2000 – 2003, as Norman Wilson in “The Wire” from 2006 – 2008,” as Barry Querns in “Law & Order: SVU,” and as Freddy in “House of Cards” from 2013 – 2013. He also recurred on “Grimm” in 2013 and “Banshee” in 2014. As far as horror and science fiction goes, Reg E. can be found supporting films including Astonished (1990), cult classic Tank Girl (1995), Se7en (1995), American Psycho (2000), 20 Years After (2008), and Fantastic Four (2015). He also recurred on Robert Kirkman’s “Outcast” as Chief Byron Giles from 2016 – 2017.
