Strangers: Prey at Night Makes Its Weekend Debut with $10.5 Million.

I’ve been waiting for Strangers: Prey at Night ever since I found out my friend, Damian Maffei, was starring as The Man in the Mask. Now, months later, the sequel to the 2008 surprise hit has entered 2,646 theaters across the country courtesy of Aviron. Weekend estimates are starting to come in, and leading source Box Office Mojo is reporting that Strangers: Prey at Night made $10,480,000 between March 9 and March 11, 2018. This was enough for the home invasion flick to take the #3 spot on chart behind Black Panther (#1, $41.1 million) and A Wrinkle in Time (#2, $33.3 million).

Comparatively, when The Strangers hit theaters 10 years ago in 2008, it also debuted in the #3 spot during its opening weekend, but took in a massive opening of $21,000,000 in ticket sales. Strangers: Prey at Night made just about half of that, which makes me worried; especially when you consider that Annabelle: Creation, Insidious: The Last Key and Happy Death Day all pulled in more impressive numbers. As much as The Strangers was a mold-breaker in 2008, I don’t know if the sequel, Strangers, Prey at Night was warranted.
