Unsane Pulls In Insane Numbers Opening Weekend.

It may not seem like a triumph, but Unsane looks like it could become a big hit in theaters. Shot completely on an iPhone 7, Unsane debuted in theaters across the nation this weekend, March 23 to March 24, and came in as the #11 movie across the country according to Box Office Mojo. Distributed to 2,023 screens by Bleeker Street, the new horror-thriller is estimated to have made $3,858,000 in ticket sales this weekend. That may seem like nothing, but when you consider the low theater count for a wide release and the film’s overall budget of $16,500,000 (production + promotion), Unsane is already making strides towards lucrative earnings.

Elsewhere on the chart the other new debut Pacific Rim: Uprising and Black Panther held the top two spots, with $28,000,000 and $16,658 made in ticket sales. Sequel Strangers: Prey at Night dropped to #11 with $2,000,000 (total: $22,138,000) and scifi-thriller Annihilation dropped to #18 with $900,000 (total: $31,418,000). It looks like Oscar Winner The Shape of Water is nearing the end of its theatrical life, as the break-out hit made just $250,000 this weekend.
