(Short Film) Robby McBride & Edith Balavoine’s Rose 66

Rose 66 is a new micro horror short from couple Robby McBride and Edith Balavoine. Completely shot and edited on the Note 9, Rose 66 follows a young man refilling his gas tank on a deserted highway as he’s stalked by a mysterious and presumably scored lover. It’s got all the classic elements of traditional road-side horror films like The Hitchhiker and Rest Stop; although, it does leave a lot to the imagination. What’s great about this? If the video receives 500 or more views on YouTube by June 1st (my birthday…), then Robby and Edith will make another installment in the Rose 66 saga.

While Rose 66 is sleek and some level of preparation was put into producing this micro short, I would like to see some things change if there is a part 2. Honestly, Edith Balavoine is the perfect choice for the role, and her moment of crinkling up a discarded rose was a stunning visual. So, going forward, Robby McBride should look for any opportunity to turn his vision into something that looks more professional and captures the essence of horror. For example, when the gas tank is being filled, and the way the car is angled, everything is reflected off the vehicle’s surface. It would have been a good opportunity to have Edith stalking Robby – shown only via the car’s reflection.

Should Mr. McBride take more risks, which I think he could actually pull off successfully, then I think Rose 66 could turn out to be a really cool horror story. Watch part 1 of the saga below.
