Despite Tremendous Reviews, ‘Hereditary’ Only Debuts at #4 This Weekend.

Described as the scariest movie of the year, horror film Hereditary hit theaters this weekend – June 8 to June 10, 2018. Numbers are starting to trickle in, and BoxOfficeMojo is estimating that Hereditary made $13,037,000 in ticket sales this weekend after screening in 2,964 theaters nationwide. It was just enough to take the #4 spot on the charts, bested only by Blockbusters and barely beat by Deadpool 2. The film’s budget is $25,000,000 (production + promotion), and it’s possible that Hereditary could recoup that by the all important Friday chart. Or, word of mouth could carry this horror film to greater highs.

Also on the weekend chart, Upgrade came in at the #9 spot, making $2,220,000 in ticket sales. Its current domestic total stands at $9,209,000, and it only needs $6,000,000 to reach official lucrative sales. A Quiet Place stumbles a little bit and comes in at #13 with an even $1,000,000 in ticket sales. Its current domestic total reaches $185,460,000, which is huge but sad in the same right, because I was really hoping A Quiet Place would cross the $200,000,000 mark like IT did.

Still, this was a wonderful weekend for horror cinema. Make sure you get out to the theaters during this rainy weekend and check out Hereditary and Upgrade!
